Create A Wordpress
XAMMP Server With Ubuntu-X6
1. Install XAMPP If you haven't installed XAMPP yet, follow this Link XAMPP is the service that allows you to run wordpress in short.
2. Download WordPress
Go to the WordPress official download page and download the latest version of WordPress. Save the downloaded file (typically a .zip or .tar.gz archive) to your home directory.
3. Extract WordPress Package
4. Rename wordpress-#.#.##.3-.zip to
(wordpress.zip) makes it way eazyer for newbes
Open your terminal and navigate to your Downloads directory (or wherever you downloaded WordPress):
TYPE The Following in The terminal
cd ~/Downloads
Terminal will output and look like the following
yourname@yourname:~/Downloads$
Next Is to Extract the WordPress archive:
TYPE THE FOLLOWING INTO THE TERMIANL
unzip wordpress.zip
This will create a wordpress directory containing all WordPress files.
4. Moveing WordPress Directory
Move the extracted WordPress directory to XAMPP's htdocs directory:
TYPE THE FOLLOWING IN THE TERMINAL
sudo mv wordpress /opt/lampp/htdocs/
5. Change Directory Ownership
Find out the username that Apache (or HTTPD) runs under. Use the following command to find out:
TYPE THE FOLLOING IN THE TERMINAL
ps aux | grep apache
Look for the username in the first column (usually www-data or daemon). Once you have the username, change ownership of the WordPress directory to that user:
TYPE THE FOLLOWING IN THE TERMINAL
sudo chown -R username:username /opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress
Replace username:username with the actual username you found in the previous step.
6. Set XAMPP Security
Run the following command to set passwords for phpMyAdmin and MySQL/MariaDB root:
TYPE THE FOLLOWING INTO THE TERMINAL
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp security
Follow the prompts to set passwords.
7. Create WordPress Database
Open your web browser and go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin. Log in with the MySQL root username and password you set during XAMPP security setup.
Click on "Databases" in the top menu.
Create a new database named wordpress.
8. Run WordPress Installation
Now, open your web browser and go to http://localhost/wordpress. This will start the WordPress installation process:
Select your language and click on "Continue".
WordPress will inform you that it needs a database name, username, password, database host, and table prefix.
Database Name: wordpress
Username: root
Password: root (or the password you set during XAMPP security setup)
Database Host: localhost
Table Prefix: (leave as default wp_ or customize as needed)
Click on "Submit" and then on "Run the installation".
Fill in the site title, username, password, and email address for the WordPress administrator account.
Click on "Install WordPress".
9. Login to WordPress Dashboard
Once the installation is complete, you can log in to the WordPress dashboard by going to http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin. Enter the username and password you just created during the installation process.
10. Start Using WordPress
You've successfully installed WordPress on XAMPP! You can now start building and managing your local WordPress site for development or testing purposes.
